LOOK INSIDE

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
LOUIS HANSELL – USA
I bought this book in August 2022. The format/style of this book has definitely boosted my Russian. First, because the short fairy tales are interesting in their own right. Then, the language and vocabulary are varied but still basic enough for a learner to navigate. Each story has a short piece followed by a list of words, phrases, and idioms defined below that section. My recommendation for readers is to read and reread each story before moving on to the next story. I found that re-reading the stories gave me a familiarity with the language that DID boost my Russian. And encountering certain words in different cases helps make cases easier to “feel” them, and the different cases start to sound natural, without having to consciously think of them, which is the way native language happens. I have downloaded other books, and I have enjoyed them all.

Excellent content, not daunting nor boring. The audio was wonderful and it’s truly motivating to read in Russian and understand it, as well as to double check one’s pronunciation. I learned a lot of new vocabulary and pronunciation and enjoyed the questions after the text.
DAVID ELLISON – THE NETHERLANDS
Easy to read and learn new vocabulary, fun learning about stories told in another culture. Learning a language is more than just learning the words and phrases. It helps provide a better insight into how other people think and how they see the world.

The Russian fairytales are wonderful to read and understand the language and culture. They are also entertaining and well-produced. I like to read these stories to my 11-year-old son who is also learning Russian. My wife is a native Russian speaker and also loves them. She can vouch for the authenticity of the translation work as well. Thanks for such a great product. Looking forward to more.

I really liked the book, not only because it helped me learn new vocabulary but I also gained insight into the Russian culture through beautiful tales. I would definitely recommend this book to people who have an upper-elementary or pre-intermediate level in the Russian language!
DAN FLICK – USA
This collection of Russian stories was particularly interesting to me. I had never heard ANY of these stories which made them even more interesting. I can’t emphasize how outstanding this book (and its sequel) was.
MARIA CULMER – UK
I really enjoyed these tales. Each story is around 4-5 pages long, giving a real sense of achievement of finishing a story in one sitting. These were challenging for me, a little above my level, but not so much that I lost the enjoyment of reading a story. Having new vocabulary embedded in a story like this helps with learning and I learned a lot!! Would highly recommend it.

I really liked the tales in this book, some were familiar to me and others were completely new. It’s a good recommendation because you can train both your listening and reading skills while learning many new words!!! I am looking forward to the second part of these beautiful Russian tales. The book perfectly met my level of Russian!

I liked the book so much because I learned more about stories that move Russian children, as I hope also to learn more about the Russian adult mind. The book helped me learn new common sentences and constructions which I heard for the first time. No need to panic if a word is not clear as with the definitions given the text explains itself by itself. The audio at full speed was nevertheless helpful only after reading, otherwise, I suggest that the learner goes first with the slow speed.
The book was a good fit for my level in Russian and I realized how much progress I have done since the first word I have learned. I would definitely recommend this book for any other learner, especially for those who study the language on their own. Thank you so much, Kristina, your books are the best tools for students!
BONNIE YELVERTON – USA
I’ve always loved fairy tales and folk tales. When I was a child, I looked forward to the Baba Yaga stories that were published in a children’s magazine several times a year. So when I saw these stories, I was delighted to continue my acquaintance with both Baba Yaga and Firebirds. I have even finally become acquainted with Руслан и Людмила, based on an epic poem by Пушкин, which he based on folk stories. At first, I didn’t like the way the text is set up, with a short section of no more than 10 lines, with bolded words and phrases, which are glossed to English immediately following, instead of at the end or on a facing page. But I discovered that this actually was an advantage. Because the sections are so short. I don’t mind reading a section several times. I read once without looking at the glosses, and then again after. Then I read with the included audio (Kristina is a good storyteller) and then listen to audio alone. I have purchased several of these books, and look forward to reading them all.
