Kristina’s Russian adaptation of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea is a very good learning tool for the Russian language. The format is not “parallel language”, though selected words and phrases are highlighted and translated. This, combined with the stress marks over each word, gives you the ability to read several pages straight through without stopping. Then there is a short multiple-choice quiz at the end of each chapter, where you can test your over-all understanding of the section. I’ve personally found it to be a very good way to improve comprehension. One other useful thing I wanted to point out about this and the other books in Kristina’s series, is that there are wide margins on each page that enable the learner to make lots of their own notes and highlights on each page. My goal is mastering the basics of the Russian language. These books are extremely helpful for doing that!
